Pigeon Shooting in Leicestershire The Leicestershire Wildfowlers wood pigeon shooting section was established in 1961 providing both roost shooting and crop protection opportunities to the membership to just wildfowling on the foreshore and still is very popular and well supported with the members of the club as it gives members shooting after the wildfowling season has finished.
With the changes to the general licence Roost shooting is arranged today as part of the clubs service to help farmers and landowners deal with Pigeon problems once they have exhausted all other methods so resulting in shooting being the last resort when the club is then asked to assist.
Roost shooting venues cover Leicestershire, Rutland, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire and commence in late January until early April, shoots are put out to the membership at monthly meetings by a list with details of where and when shoots are taking place. Over the years the club members have enjoyed some excellent roost shooting evenings that also includes Crows, Magpies, Jays, Squirrel's as well as wood pigeon.
Wood Pigeon Roost Shooting Information The bulk of the roost shooting programme will be during February and March after the game shooting season has finished. Shoots will be arranged for both Saturday and some Thursday evenings and will go out to the membership at the February and March monthly meetings.
New members wishing to participate in roost shooting evenings need to make themselves known to Section Head or the shoot captains filling the shoot lists at the monthly meetings. New members will also need to obtain a copy of the Woodpigeon Risk Assessment and complete and return the confirmation slip back to myself for the clubs files.

Pigeon Roost Shooting Rules Please remember that if you put your name down on a list and you cannot make the shoot you do need to contact the shoot captain running the shoot to inform him that you will not be attending. Please give as much notification as possible to allow the shoot captain to be able to offer your place to another member who may be on the list as reserve. Members are also expected to stay for the full duration of the shoot evening and not leave early due to having other engagements. If you do not have the time to commit fully please do not attend as this not only deprives members unable to get a place if the list is full. It is also disrespectful to our hosts who invite us onto their land to shoot wood pigeons it also creates problems for the shoot captains running the shoots. It is important you arrive on time and book in with the shoot Captain, sign the list and listen to the rules and requirements for the shoot evening (given by either the shoot Captain, Game Keeper or Landowner). Membership cards and shotgun certificate must be carried with you at all times, when participating in LWA arranged shoots and produced for inspection when requested. Please remember we are only out to shoot wood pigeon, crows, jackdaws, rooks, magpies, jays, squirrels, nothing else unless requested must be shot and No Ground Game or very low shots must be taken. Disciplinary action will be taken against any member found to be breaking this rule. At the end of the shoot you are required to return back to the meeting place, sign out with the shoot captain, so that he knows that you are back and give him the details and lay out what you have shot for recording purposes. All Pigeon shot belong to the Landowner / Estate unless otherwise stated and must be handed in unless otherwise agreed. If you have not already done so you will need to obtain, read and complete the wood pigeon Risk Assessment (available at the monthly meetings) and return the confirmation slip back to Pigeon Section Head. Until this slip has been received you will not be able to participate in any of the arranged LWA Wood Pigeon shooting.
